INDONESIA PRAY FOR JAPAN
A week ago, 11th March 2011, Japan was stricken by the largest tsunami catastrophe in the history of earthquakes in Japan, about 140 years. Namely the undersea quake measuring 8.9 that has caused huge waves that flooded parts of the east coast, even the waves reached a height of 10 meters. This disaster has caused tremendous damages and brought lots of casualties.
I made this INDONESIA PRAY FOR JAPAN poster and postcards series as an expression of my grief to people in Japan. The metaphor of the two national flag as a metaphor of Indonesia and Japan which melting together, helping each other, on which it forms a drop of blood, which represent disaster, death, and sorrow, also a tear drop which shows sadness and mourning to the victim of tsunami in Japan. The flower pattern on the red side is from Balm Flower which means “sympathy”, (which the Balm itself could cure some injuries) and the pattern on the white side are White Verbena Flower, which means “pray for me”.
There’s also postcards which you can use to send to people especially those in Japan to show your sympathy and give them supports. The back of the postcards idea adapted from Hinomaru Yosegaki (日の丸寄せ書き / Good Luck Flag) which is a Japanese traditional flag that was given to a soldier and was tradition for friends and family to sign it with wishes of good fortune. You can download the free postcards here. Just print it back and forth on a piece of thick A4 paper, and you’ll get postcards to send to your friends in Japan.
